The S-BAN can pivot and extend in the user's hand
The S-BAN is a handheld shape-changing haptic interface that utilizes a parallel kinematic structure to deliver 2-DOF spatial information over a continuous workspace.
S-BAN stands for Shape-Based Assistance for Navigation. The device was designed for pedestrian navigation assistance, where the pose of the device will correspond to navigation cues provided by such systems as Google Maps running on a smartphone.
The S-BAN device is largely 3D printed and is now open-source, so you can make your own. We hope this will lower the barrier to entry for others interested in shape-changing devices.
